Bomb Threat Forces Vistara Flight to London to Divert to Frankfurt
A London-bound Vistara flight from New Delhi was diverted to Frankfurt on Friday following a bomb threat. The airline confirmed early Saturday that the flight landed safely in Frankfurt, where mandatory security checks are underway. Once cleared by authorities, the flight will resume its journey to London.
The airline stated that Vistara flight UK17, operating on October 18, 2024, received a security threat via social media. Following established protocols, authorities were immediately notified, and the flight was diverted to Frankfurt as a precautionary measure.
An official source confirmed that the threat was related to a bomb warning. Simultaneously, Akasa Air reported that its Bengaluru to Mumbai flight (QP 1366) encountered a security alert prior to takeoff on Friday. As a safety measure, all passengers were deplaned while local authorities conducted necessary checks.
In recent days, nearly 40 Indian flights have received bomb threats, all of which were later determined to be hoaxes. In response to this surge in false alarms, the Civil Aviation Ministry is considering stricter regulations, including placing those responsible for hoax threats on a no-fly list, to curb such incidents in the future.
